Yvon Mvogo a retrouvé Kevin Mbabu à Bad Ragaz. De quoi profiter du moment.

Football: Back in the Swiss team, Yvon Mvogo won a “fight”.

Forgotten since September because he didn’t play for PSV Eindhoven, the Freiburger found playing time and was recalled by Murat Yakin. But his future is written elsewhere.

Yvon Mvogo met Kevin Mbabu again in Bad Ragaz. What to enjoy the moment.

fresh focus

The Swiss team travels to Bad Ragaz by bike. The distance between his luxurious hotel and the training ground is relatively short. But long enough to create gaps. Fabian Frei prevailed on Friday. In which groupto bring the end, the band of Which. Maybe because we have to take advantage of this reunion. They are all smiling, Kevin Mbabu, Jordan Lotomba and especially Yvon Mvogo. The Freiburg porter enjoys the moment.

It’s very good to be there, he appreciates seeing friends again. I see this moment as a group of friends getting together to have fun. Yvon Mvogo hadn’t appeared in the Swiss team since September. Eight months. It’s long in football. But Murat Yakin’s decision to favor Jonas Omlin and Gregor Kobel was legitimate: the former Young Boys goalkeeper didn’t play for PSV Eindhoven. It was only since mid-April that he regained a regular place and ended the season in goal with a Dutch Cup victory against Ajax Amsterdam in the final.

On the bench “without explanation”

The end is happy. But Yvon Mvogo hasn’t really understood the plot of this season: “The situation was very difficult. I really didn’t expect to sit on the bench. I had talks with the coach (Note d. Red.: the German Roger Schmidt, who has just switched to Benfica), with the club, and they counted on me. I felt seasoned, another goalkeeper. So I returned calmly after the EURO and found myself on the bench with no explanation while coming out of a good season as the undisputed defending champion. The team won and it was difficult to change it. In my mind it was really the fight. Fight injustice, but above all, accept it.

fresh focus

“From this time I was able to learn that everything in football is played in the head. Everyone has talent, but the most important thing is the head. Of course we have doubts, but the main thing was to focus on yourself. I matured and found moral support in my family. So I’m glad I was strong enough to get up.”

Because since that game against Waalwijk, it is the Marlinois who is in the starting eleven instead of the Dutchman Joël Drommel. And this time Mvogo did not disappoint, having impressed with superior balls at the start of his two-year loan spell at PSV. “I then came back from three seasons without playing, those mistakes were due to that before I stabilized,” he explains bluntly.

She will be moving this summer

At the age of 28, Yvon Mvogo now has one task: playing time: between Leipzig and PSV he was too often on the bench to risk a return. Despite another year of contract with the German formation, his future is written elsewhere: “It will be safe for me to play at the club I will sign with,” he announces. I want to be an undeniable keeper. It’s lucky that I’ve been able to play again lately because a lot of clubs have been able to see me again. The timing is perfect.”

“I don’t want to go down one floor”

Where can he hop? “In a big championship, I don’t want to go down a floor,” he pleads. Ligue 1 has eyed him on several occasions. Lille came close to signing him last summer. That winter there had been talks with Saint-Étienne or even Bordeaux. Aston Villa was also there in January. Sign that it keeps a rating. “Right now all I can say is that it’s going to be a great club.” Cap’ to get there by bike?
