Trial: Johnny Depp denounces Amber Heard’s ‘amazing’ words

Called outside the bar during Amber Heard’s trial, Johnny Depp strenuously denied inflicting “violence” on his ex-wife.

Johnny Depp on Wednesday condemned the “harrowing” allegations of domestic violence made by Amber Heard and testified a second time in the defamation trial he is bringing against his ex-wife in a US court.

“No one is perfect, certainly not any of us, but I’ve never committed sexual violence or physical violence in my life,” said the 58-year-old actor. Called back before the bar of this trial, which began six weeks ago in Fairfax, near Washington, his attorneys asked him how he felt after hearing his ex-wife’s allegations.

“It’s insane to hear these heinous allegations of violence, sexual violence, that she’s blaming me for,” said the Pirates of the Caribbean saga star. “All those amazing, outrageous things she says I’ve done,” he added.

“It’s horrible, ridiculous, humiliating, insane, painful, wild, brutal and cruel in ways unimaginable and totally wrong,” he said, repeating to the jury, “Totally wrong.” The comedian asserted that no one “needs to be keen on speaking the truth,” but he did need to disclose what he’s “reluctantly carried on his heart for six years.”

“Abusive Husband”

The couple began dating in 2011 before marrying in 2015. But Amber Heard filed for divorce in May 2016, accusing him of domestic violence. The divorce was finalized in early 2017. In 2020 he lost a libel case in London against the British tabloid The Sun, which called him an “abusive husband”.

He then filed a complaint in the state of Virginia against his ex-wife, who in a 2018 column published in The Washington Post described herself as “a public figure who represents domestic violence” without naming Johnny Depp.

He believes this platform has ruined his reputation and career and is seeking $50 million in damages. The 36-year-old actress – who appeared on the posters for Justice League and Aquaman – countered and demanded the double, claiming she was banned from the film industry from her platform.

Leading the charge, she spoke of the many altercations that escalated into physical violence when Johnny Depp was under the influence of a drug and alcohol cocktail, including a 2015 rape with a bottle of alcohol in Australia.

“He never pushed me”

For his part, the actor claims that his wife was violent and in particular cut off the tip of a finger by throwing a bottle of vodka at him during the same argument. Earlier, during a brief testimony in court, British supermodel Kate Moss denied rumors that her ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp pushed her down a flight of stairs during their relationship.

“He never pushed me or threw me down a flight of stairs,” Kate Moss said via videoconference from England. On May 5, Amber Heard detailed a heated argument with her husband in March 2015, sparking a rumor that Johnny Depp once pushed Kate Moss down a flight of stairs.

The 48-year-old supermodel – who was in a relationship with ‘Edward Scissorhands’ between 1994 and 1998 – opened up about an incident that took place while the couple were vacationing in Jamaica. “We left the room and Johnny walked in front of me. There had been a thunderstorm and when I left the room I slipped down the stairs and hurt my back,” she said.

“And I was screaming because I didn’t know what had just happened to me and I was in pain. He ran back to help me, carried me to my room and got medical attention,” the supermodel continued during a three-minute intervention. Amber Heard’s lawyers declined to question Kate Moss. The trial, which began on April 11, is scheduled to end on Friday, and its outcome remains uncertain.
