The creators of the first watch worn on the moon anticipated the next big step by creating a stylish new Speedmaster designed to measure every moment on Earth and Mars. Developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), the Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer from OMEGA lives up to its name.
The OMEGA caliber 5622 powers the new Marstimer. A high-precision, temperature-compensated quartz movement handles the watch’s many digital and analogue functions quickly and efficiently.
The unique 45mm chronograph in a grade 2 titanium case can keep track of time and time zones, both on our world and on the mysterious red planet. Designed to assist scientists, the OMEGA Marstimer offers many valuable tools for those working in space exploration.

Developed under a patent license from ESA, its functions include an MTC function to track date and time from the surface of Mars to the Prime Meridian, taking into account that a day on Mars is 39 minutes longer than on Earth. It also features an innovative solar compass that shows true north on Earth and Mars. The watch also offers the applications of the traditional Speedmaster Skywalker X33, such as Mission Elapsed Time (MET), Phase Elapsed Time (PET), Alarms and Perpetual Calendar.
And like the other professional models from OMEGA, it also does its job with style. Its classic black dial provides a contrasting background for the numerous analog and digital displays, whose legibility is further facilitated by the Earth and Mars symbols that distinguish the functions used. Surrounding the dial is an oxalic anodized aluminum bezel in hematite red, reminiscent of the characteristic dust of Mars. This striking hue also adorns the second hand, which features a hematite color gradient from black to red, a visual code intended to emphasize the professional instrument status of this OMEGA.
Turning the watch over reveals OMEGA’s famous Speedmaster inscription and the equally famous seahorse medallion engraved in relief in the center of the case back. Around it we can read the words SPEEDMASTER X-33 MARSTIMER, ESA TESTED AND QUALIFIED. A testament to the legitimacy of the partnership and the integrity of the watch.

For Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA, the brand had to create the Marstimer considering its heritage in the world of space exploration. “Anyone interested in space or just sci-fi is obsessed with Mars. This planet inspires so much curiosity and is the source of many incredible stories. We even have a name for its imaginary inhabitants. Mars is so close and so far at the same time. We dream of going there. Being on Earth and being able to track its movements gives a whole new meaning to the term “clock”. I am delighted about this new addition to the famous Speedmaster family. »
For those wanting to change the grade 2 and 5 titanium bracelet, the Marstimer also comes with a special NATO strap and strap changing tool. These are contained in the watch’s special snail, the inner lining of which is a nod to the Red Planet: a reproduction of Hebe’s Chasma, a unique steep gorge on the surface of Mars.
Although a manned mission to the Red Planet is not scheduled for tomorrow, OMEGA’s new Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer will soon be available in many locations around the world. A must-have for professionals, space enthusiasts and avid collectors, it’s stylish, easy to use and a perfect complement to OMEGA’s Speedmaster Moonwatch.
