The ten good addresses of the month Geneva at the table
Our selection of good gourmet tips in the Canton of Geneva.
The Courtois farm. The farmer’s market has developed a lot in the canton of Geneva and the points of sale for local products without intermediaries have multiplied. The Courtois family farm in Versoix, which has been in operation for four generations, is one of the finest examples. In the shop, which is open all week except Sunday and Monday, you can buy fruit, vegetables, chicken, beef and pork, local cheeses and elsewhere, or flowers. There’s even the Féras du Léman on Fridays. All these products are not born on the farm, but come from over forty other producers from the canton and the region, most of them with the Genève Région Terre Avenir (GRTA) label. When the brandies are made on the farm, the wines are brought by four winemakers. Courtyard Courtois, Route de la Branvaude 10 in Versoix. Tel.022 755 43 16.
Blue martinis. The Blue Martini restaurant is located in the heart of the bedroom community of Gennecy, in the town of Avully. Just opposite a small grocery store that also serves as a post office. He welcomes his customers with enthusiasm and offers excellent cuisine. Starting with a series of pizzas cooked over a wood fire. We love the Blue Martini variant, topped with crème fraiche, roquefort, walnuts, cherry tomatoes, arugula, and oregano. The kids choose the one in the shape of a bunny! The menu also features delicious pasta. If you order spaghetti carbonara, you will immediately be asked “with or without cream?”. Because customers claim that this dish must contain it. So don’t annoy anyone! However, the elephant ear is just as attractive. Blue Martini, 54 Avenue de Gennecy, Avully. Such. 022 756 12 93. Open daily from 8am to 2am.
Eating roots in the Vieux Chênes. We love the Auberge des Vieux Chênes in Presinge, a gourmet antidote to Kleenex and trendy city center shops. Oilcloths, no-frills furniture, cheeky dishes with onions and relaxed service. The love of the country bistro.
Auberge des Vieux Chênes, Presinge, reopening on July 23rd. Closed Wednesday and Thursday. Phone: 022 759 12 07.
Top sorbets at Arn. When the mercury goes haywire, sitting on the listed terrace of Chez Arn, a sweet Old Town institution, and having a sorbet with real fruit in it, well, you see, it’s still a must. The raspberry ice cream makes us melt.
Arn pastry shop, 12 Place du Bourg-de-Four. Open every day.
mango deck. On the Cours de Rives and in the Bourg de Four we show dietetics and low prices under the sign of Mango Deck. For nutritional reasons, warm dishes are steamed. The pasta basket (16.50) or the vegetarian salad (15.50) on the spot or to take away are perfect. A plus: gluten-free ravioli with meat or spinach. All served on the spot in a salad bowl with vegetables.
Mango Deck, Cours de Rive 20, 1207 and Place du Bourg-de-Four 15, 1204. Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. hello@mangodeck.ch
Tehran. I knew nothing about Iranian cuisine and it is a discovery of unusual flavors. Green or red stews, acidity, smokiness, chicken or lamb accompanied by Persian rice, rice crust, red beans, small chickpeas, mixed herbs and lemon, here are some elements of this oriental cuisine to discover in the station district.
The beautiful foams of the Virage. You can lose yourself in the cascade of new Geneva breweries. Since 2015, the Virage has been straight ahead, with amazing foams whose expressiveness, precision and consistency lift our spirits.
turn brewery. Open from Thursday to Saturday, Chemin de Maronsy 50, Plan-les-Ouates. Available at many points of sale. home delivery
Brioche Love with Baoti. A small Asian counter a stone’s throw from the train station that skillfully offers ravioli and baos. Add small stuffed and soft steamed bites. Everything is homemade. And very well done. You must try the owner’s lemonade. She seriously cheers up.
baoti. Rue Cornavin, 3. Closed on Mondays. Phone: 022 313 83 89.
Molokai. The poke bowl is in fashion. Healthy and easy, eat in or take away. The best thing about Molokai is the fusion of ingredients not found in Hawaiian pokes. With a choice of 5 bases (3 rice, quinoa, kale), seven proteins (meat or fish), 4 veggies (out of 17!) and 12 toppings. How we love what!
Molokai, 67 rue du Rhône, Mon-Sat 11am-9.30pm, 6 place Grenus, Mon-Sat 11am-3.30pm and 6 rue de l’école de médecine, Mon-Sat 11am -3:30 p.m. Between 18.90f and 29.90f depending on the formula.
Croc’Orient. One only has to see the line at the Croc’Orient stand in the Plainpalais market to know that Raya and Ozi’s Palestinian pancakes and falafel (in the Carouge market) are worth the detour. I confirm.
Croc’Orient and Galette de la Paix, at the Plainpalais market, Friday and Sunday mornings. At the Carouge market on Saturdays 8:30am-2pm and 12 rue du Vélodrome in Geneva, Mon-Fri 11am-1pm
