– We ask for a hundred musicians to play in the arena
Tomasz Gadek, an engineer at CERN, invites amateurs to form a huge rock band. The show will take place on September 3, the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Ukraine Aid association.
Bringing together the “biggest rock band in the world” to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees: that’s the proposal of Tomasz Gadek, an engineer at CERN, who has made it his mission to rent the arena, one of the most important concerts in the region , for humanitarian purposes.
This ambitious project requires the participation of a hundred musicians and amateurs from French-speaking Switzerland. Registration is open until August 22nd. The concert will take place on September 3rd. The directory? “Seven Nation Army” by the White Stripes, “Killing in the Name” by Rage Against The Machine and “Happy Together” by the Turtles, eight songs total. A Ukrainian guest, the group The Hardkiss, was able to join this huge band on stage.
So much for entertainment. The finances now: donations will be opened during the concert, while the profits from the box office, from 59 Fr. 50 to 129 Fr. 50 entries, depending on the placement, will be donated to the Ukraine Aid association, founded by Tomasz Gadek at the beginning of the conflict .
The young 30-year-old of Polish origin already managed a first rally on June 19 in the Victoria Hall with a performance by Nautical Harmony, also in favor of the Ukrainian refugee aid. (See on the website ofUkraine help).
After the classic rock. The arena’s giant orchestra is based on the Rockin’1000 project launched in Italy in 2015. By letting a thousand instrumentalists play a Foo Fighters track, the initiators had persuaded the American group to perform in the Emilia-Romagna town of Cesena. Since then, word of the concept has spread, up until this performance at the Stade de France in May 2022 in front of 50,000 spectators.
From pure and hard entertainment we are now moving towards humanitarian action. “But to play a thousand musicians, we would need a stadium!” states Tomasz Gadek. The sail will therefore be more modest. Although there are still a lot of people. At the concert in the arena, the distribution of the “desks” follows the following proportions: four pianists, ten drummers, twelve bassists, twenty-four guitarists and forty-eight singers, that’s the minimum.
“We will be able to help at least 50 families of Ukrainian refugees, or even twice that.”
Tomasz Gadek, founder of the association Ukraine Aid, organizer of “Rockin’1000” on September 3 in the arena.
If the arena can hold up to 8,000 people, Tomasz Gadek hopes to be able to sell at least 2,000 tickets to cover his costs, knowing that however it will be necessary to gather between 3,000 and 4,000 people to turn a profit who can finance the help. humanitarian desired.
“We will be able to help at least 50 Ukrainian refugee families, or even twice as many. This for help with accommodation, also to give English lessons to refugees. Many women are far from home with their children alone and without financial means because they cannot work. Above all, the language is a hurdle that these people have to overcome in order to find a job.” Thanks to the first concert in the Victoria Hall, Ukraine Aid was able to support seven families in Switzerland as in the rest of Europe.
