“Confident and relaxed, these are not words that describe me well!” Clara Luciani started, Girlfriend of Alex Kapranos, during an exchange with the press at the Cannes Film Festival. On the other hand, I’m preparing to have everything taken from me overnight. I’m not pessimistic, but I don’t want to experience too much of an emotional upsurge, so I’m ready for it to stop.”
french singer, who photobombed Rihanna and ASAP RockyShe entrusted herself to the program “Women In Motion”, which gives a voice to various female artists. She claimed not to have suffered from the sexualization as she “always refused”. On the other hand, as I entered the world of music, I realized that instruments are still gendered: a woman, on the other hand, has every right to play the violin if she is attracted to either drums or electric guitar it is funny or perceived as “sexy”. That surprised me a lot.”
Being a woman has never been an obstacle for Clara as she has always seen it as a challenge. “Just because I’m a woman and come from a humble background doesn’t mean I can’t do it. On the other hand, maybe I fought twice as much,” she confided. The 29-year-old artist also mentioned the theme of sisterhood: “I’m excited to see this goodwill between women that’s becoming more and more real. We’re often put in competition, but I think we’re all aware of that and we’re fighting that stigma.
“As soon as I had hair, I had bangs!”
Clara Luciani also evoked the power of art, which she believes has no limits: “There is nothing that music cannot do. Art saved my life, I don’t know how I would have found my balance in life without the song”. And to clarify: “Every time an unfortunate event happens to me, I feel like I have a magic wand that allows me to make a song out of it. It doesn’t make him go away, but I keep him away, I keep him on a leash. In the end, the singer turns her “harmful emotions” into “magical fuel”: “I’m someone who has a lot of stage fright, but it allows me to be very focused. Anger and sadness are raw materials for my songs. It’s unfortunate because when I’m very happy and calm, I feel like I can’t make a song!”
The Frenchwoman concluded by pointing out her look, which “is not a conscious work of the picture”: “As soon as I had hair, I had bangs, she started laughing. I’ve had the same haircut since I was little, I’ve always dressed a bit alike. When I was 12, I bought men’s jackets and vintage clothing at flea markets. I have never changed my style and I will not change it. I’m not comfortable enough with my body to think about it. When I start thinking about how I look, it’s the end of the beans! I’m just trying to feel myself, to feel good.
