The Galaxy Watch5: precision watchmaking
The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 can boast of being one of the most beautiful connected watches of the moment. Its thin and sober aluminum case is enhanced by a monochromatic strap without excessive frills, which gives it a luxurious stamp of quality without becoming ostentatious. This is available in 40mm and 44mm.
As always with Samsung, special attention was paid to the screen. So we’re dealing with a 1.2-inch AMOLED panel for the 40mm version and 1.4-inch for the 44mm model. The calibration is impeccable, with a nice luminosity and nice colors, making it comfortable to consult the information. A screen that is not afraid of scratches thanks to the sapphire crystal that covers it. The watch itself is water resistant to a depth of 50m (warning, it is not suitable for high pressure). Something that also accompanies you during your pool sessions.
The real strength of this new generation of watches lies in the analysis of health data. The Galaxy Watch5 has a new active biosensor. This has been designed to better conform to the shape of the wrist for more precise measurements. Think in particular of the heart rate or the pulsed oxygen saturation in the blood. The user can also rely on electrocardiogram and blood pressure measurements.
Of course, sleep is not neglected either. Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Watch5 analyzes the quality of your nights or the frequency of your snoring. Another novelty: the arrival of a temperature sensor. Samsung isn’t using this sensor yet, leaving it to developers for future health applications.
Speaking of apps, the Galaxy Watch5 offers the One UI Watch interface based on WearOS. The user experience is still just as good, with direct access to the Google Play Store. It is therefore possible to download all your favorite applications from your watch without using your smartphone. Of course, customizing the finish is part of getting a watch that really suits your taste. As for autonomy, Samsung announces an endurance of 40 hours. Fast charging can restore the battery to 45% in just 30 minutes.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 comes in a Pro version, more robust and durable. This 45mm watch therefore replaces the aluminum of its case with titanium. It benefits from a much larger battery, allowing it to last 80 hours before a catch is required.
Changes that make it the ideal connected watch for athletes. Especially since some functions are more advanced, such as B. the ability to export GPX files to analyze the route of your races. We also note the integration of a step-by-step navigation to help beginners and even return to the starting point. A particularly valuable feature if you are unlucky enough to get lost on a hike.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 can already be pre-ordered from the Samsung Store. A reservation that brings its benefits. The day after the official launch, you’re sure to have a watch. Above all, you benefit from an offered pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds Live headphones and a trade-in bonus of 50 euros when you sell your old Connected Watch.
Enough to drop the bill by 299 euros for the 40mm version or 329 euros for the 44mm version. So reselling an Apple Watch Series 6 will set you back £202, dropping the Samsung Galaxy Watch5 to £97. The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro has a price of 469 euros.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro: no compression
After a year without headphones, Samsung is back with the successors to the very good Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro. The soberly named Galaxy Buds2 Pro look slimmer and lighter than their predecessors.
But the aesthetics are not the only change brought by the South Korean manufacturer, because the main novelty lies in the sound reproduction. In fact, Samsung is introducing a new Bluetooth audio codec called “SSC Hi-Fi” with its Galaxy Buds2 Pro. This codec enables Hi-Fi transmission of sound, ie without compression. Samsung announces that the codec can go up to a sampling rate of 24 bits. Specifically, this codec transmits up to 256 times more audio data than codecs such as AAC or SBC.
Samsung is also making progress when it comes to noise reduction. The Galaxy Buds2 Pro contain three dedicated microphones per earbud. The manufacturer specifies a degree of reduction of up to 33 dB at certain frequencies. What to enjoy his music undisturbed.
Finally, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro benefit from an autonomy of up to 18 hours with the reduction activated and 29 hours without. A feat of strength made possible by the charging case.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro can be pre-ordered at a price of 229 euros. Until August 25, you can benefit from a free 15 W wireless duo charger and a EUR 30 trade-in bonus on your old headphones.
