On April 12, 2012, TYPE-MOON released a brand new visual novel following the remarkable successes of TYPE-MOON Tsukihime and destiny/stay night : Mahōtsukai no Yoru (aka Mahoyo), with English subtitles (despite the lack of official localization) Witch on the Holy Night. Mahōtsukai no Yoru, the studio’s first VN that was not considered an adult game (eroge), lets you follow the adventures of Mahōtsukai no Yoru Aoko Aozakivery important heroine in the works of TYPE-MOON, having already appeared in Tsukihimethen in Kagetsu Tohya, melting blood and Destiny/Extrabut also two other new emblematic characters: the witch Alice Kuonji and the second protagonist Sojuro Shizuki. While TYPE-MOON had previously been very discreet about projects surrounding Mahōtsukai no Yoru, the work came back into force in late 2022 with the announcement of an animated film by ufotable and an enhanced version of the visual novel on Switch and PS4. TYPE-MOON takes care of the development while the editing is entrusted aniplex. The great novelty of this new version will be the addition of full dubbing. In fact, in the original version on PC, the characters had no voice. Additionally, this new version/remaster will be included two side stories that were not in the original game.

The magazine volume 14 TYPE MOON Ass contained an introduction to the main characters of the witch about the Holy Night story, but also very informative interviews and much more. You will also find a full French translation of this volume on the website of the Archetype:Moon collective. This new issue of TYPE-MOON Ace Magazine also revealed that the release of the adaptation in animated film produced by transferable is planned 2023. At the moment we don’t have any further information, but here is the first image and the teaser that we already knew:

Mahōtsukai no Yoru’s return was no coincidence, as the visual novel fundamentals were important in the development of the first part of the Tsukihime remake, the first part of which was released on August 26th on Switch and PS4 in Japan as Tsukihime -A Piece of Blue Glass Moon-. You should know that the quality of Mahōtsukai no Yoru had not gone unnoticed at the time of its release on PC, to the point that for the first time the VN has benefited from a translation by fans… in French. This is the team lunar trad who managed all the work, and a final patch was released in 2020. Another group of fans, the French FA Archetype Moonalso made a guide on how to install the game on Windows 10.

The story of Mahōtsukai no Yoru takes place in the late 1980s, the twilight of an era full of extravagance and vibrancy, and has its core in a hilltop mansion inhabited by two witches: Aoko Aozaki and Alice Kuonji. One day, a boy from town, Sojuro Shizuki, crosses paths with the two witches who live in modern times. Soyuro lived an ordinary life. Aoko lived with dignity and pride. Alice lived hidden as if she were asleep. Each of their stars had their own way. Their orientation was unthinkable. However, it wasn’t long before the three characters, who were very different from each other in every way, started living together…

He has long sworn on several occasions, Mahōtsukai no Yoru is a work dear to its author, kinoko Nasu, as we’ve discussed elsewhere in this article. Directed the visual novel monoji tsukuri with character design by Hirokazu Koyama and music composed by Hideyuki Fukasawa, who works closely with TYPE-MOON as he was also recently responsible for the OST of the Tsukihime remake. The VN also includes an end credits song titled Hoshi ga Matataku Konna Yoru Niinterpreted by the famous group supercell With ryo for composition and Nagi Yanagi To sing. You should know that at this point TYPE-MOON was already planning two sequels, still in visual novel format. No concrete news since then, but the existence of the improved version is therefore reassuring for the future of work.
