In particular, the strength of the Apple ecosystem lies in the perfect integration between the brand’s devices and services, which ensure smooth use without scary steps. For example, when AirPods or AirPods Pro are paired with an iPhone, they are also paired with the Apple Watch. In other words, no special pairing is required between the headphones and the watch.
Connect AirPods directly to Apple Watch
- To connect AirPods directly to Apple Watch, swipe up from the watch’s main screen to open Control Center. Look for the Bluetooth icon (triangle with three circles above it).
- Tap on it and then select the AirPods you want to connect to.
- On AirPods, you’ll hear the audio indicator when they’re connected.
- On compatible AirPods, it’s even possible to control activation of active noise cancellation or transparency mode from the Apple Watch screen.
And for the other headphones
For third-party Bluetooth earphones/headsets, the connection process requires a few extra steps.
In pairing mode, the headphones should appear in the Bluetooth devices list on the Apple Watch. Here we are looking for the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2. © The Digital
- Start by putting the earbuds/headphones into pairing mode.
- Go to the Bluetooth section on your Apple Watch. The watch will start detecting nearby Bluetooth devices.
- When your gear appears on the screen, select it. The association is made.

The next time you use it, your earphones/headphones will be automatically recognized by the Apple Watch and are ready to use.
