Huawei announces the launch of the next generation of intelligent data centers

(HUAWEI) – Huawei announced the launch of the next generation of data center facility by unveiling PowerPOD 3.0, an all-new power supply system. This innovation, made possible by the joint efforts of Huawei’s data center team and industry experts, reaffirms Huawei’s commitment to building intelligent, low-carbon data centers.

A new generation of increasingly innovative data centers

Charles Yang, Senior Vice President of Huawei and CEO of Huawei Data Center Facility Team, presented the breakthrough innovations of the next generation of data center facilities at the launch. On that occasion, he said that after extensive and in-depth discussions, technical experts and industry authorities reached a consensus on the four characteristics of next-generation data center facilities, namely: sustainable, simplified, autonomous driving and reliability.

Consistent : Next generation data centers will be fully green and energy efficient while maximizing the recycling of all data center materials. In this way, the entire ecosystem of the data center becomes green and sustainable. This can be achieved by using green resources – electricity, land and water – and by maximizing the recycling of materials used throughout their life cycle. In addition to the widely used indicator PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness), other indicators such as CUE (Carbon Usage Effectiveness), WUE (Water Usage Effectiveness) and GUE (Grid Usage Effectiveness) are also used to measure the sustainability of data centers.

Simplified: Simplified architecture, power and cooling embody the evolution of the data center installation. Simplified architecture brings innovative forms for buildings and equipment rooms. Using the prefabricated modular design to build a 1000-bay data center can reduce the construction time from over 18 months to 6-9 months. Simplified power redesigns components and connections. It shortens the delivery time from 2 months to 2 weeks. The simplified cooling also maximizes heat exchange efficiency by replacing multiple heat exchangers with one and shortening the cooling distance.

Autonomous driving : Automation of operations and maintenance, optimization of energy efficiency and operational autonomy are reshaping the management of data center operations and maintenance. By automating operations and maintenance, engineers can remotely inspect 2,000 racks in 5 minutes. By optimizing energy efficiency, an optimal cooling strategy can be provided by 1.4 million original combinations in 1 minute, realizing intelligent cooling. Operational autonomy maximizes resource value.

Reliability: Proactive security and secure architecture ensure high quality and sustainable data center development. Proactive security means using big data and AI technologies to implement predictive maintenance, from components to data centers, based on visibility and perception of all areas in data centers. With automatic error response, it takes just 1 minute to detect an error, 3 minutes to analyze it and 5 minutes to fix it. A secure architecture means that security is provided at different levels such as components, devices and systems. At the system level, the visible, manageable and controllable E2E platform achieves 99.999% system availability.

PowerPOD 3.0: A power system that saves time, space and energy

At the event, Fei Zhenfu, technical director of Huawei Data Center Facility Team, introduced a new generation of power supply system called PowerPOD 3.0. This system reduces footprint by 40%, energy consumption by 70%, delivery time from 2 months to 2 weeks, and SLA failure rate by 38. %.

In striving for the next generation of data centers, technological innovation will be a key force in ensuring sustainable development. Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to make advances in products and technologies offered through continuous investment in R&D and extensive collaboration with customers, ecosystem partners, and industry organizations. Together we can usher in a new era of data center development.
