[Cannes 2022] When will the films in this edition be in cinemas? -Les Inrocks

With the Cannes Film Festival now over, it’s time to take stock of the release dates of the films that marked this 75th edition. If the wait to see you (again) will be short-lived for some, we must be patient for others.

The 75th Cannes Film Festival ended with the re-crowning of Ruben Ostlund, winner for triangle of sadness a second Palme d’Or five years after the win The seat, in 2017. This choice, which we regret, ends an edition where the best films have not always come from the official competition. In it, some of our favorite works are already circulating in dark rooms: This is also the case with brother and sister by Arnaud Desplechin and the future crimes by David Kronenberg.

The other films will arrive there in the coming months, some particularly late, which we can regret: in the current context of declining box office admissions, they could have benefited from a “cannois momentum”. That being said, here are the release dates of the feature films on the official competition list, as well as our favorite films in the island. Mark your calendars!

The favorites of islandall choices combined

It was present on the Croisette in a restored version, so it has its place in this list: we remind you that the masterpiece of John Eustace, The mother and the whoreHe celebrates his big comeback on June 8th in the cinemas. We invite you to (re)discover this monument of French heritage on the big screen.

Our Golden Palm on the competition page, pacification by Albert Serraunfortunately has no release date yet. The Almond Trees by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, another of our favorites forgotten by the judges, is dated November 9th. Finally, Armageddon period by James Greywhich we would also like to see rewarded, is planned for the month of September.

This year the parallel sections, particularly La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, were very rich and somewhat overshadowed the competition films. On September 14th, 2022 one of our favorite feature films will be released by this festival, will-o’-the-wisp by Joao Pedro Rodrigues. Hopefully it will be followed closely by De Humani Corporis Fabricathe shocking documentary by Verena Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylorand from A nice morning by Mia Hansen-Love, which are not yet dated. Finally will come out on December 21st land of the gods, the radical gesture of Hlynur Palmason from the Un Certain Regard selection. One thing is for sure, autumn takes place in Cannes.
