In just two decades of presence in the watchmaking world, the Maison Louis Vuitton has demonstrated its deep passion for watches and permanently established its horological legitimacy. In 2002, the Maison introduced an exceptional watch: the Tambour. Bold and innovative, it is immediately recognizable by its original shape, its round case carved in a block of metal and its characteristic lugs. A new icon was about to be born on the watchmaking landscape… This launch will open the doors to the closed world of watchmaking for Maison Louis Vuitton.

to the limits
The Tambour watch, which over the years has become a symbol of the Louis Vuitton watch collection, has traveled through time while remaining true to the House’s DNA linked to travel and daring creativity, technological innovation and combined the know-how of its craftsmen. With the introduction of the Spin Time in 2009, the Tambour even reinvented the hour display, with rotating dice instead of hands and indices. In 2011, La Fabrique du Temps in Geneva and its master watchmakers Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini joined Louis Vuitton’s watchmaking adventure to create exceptional timepieces together.
Just as the La Tambour Evolution, launched in 2014, inherited the streamlined and masculine lines of its 45mm diameter case, the Tambour Slim 2016 is refined and discreet on the wrist in a tourbillon version. Introduced in 2017, the Tambour Moon retains the characteristic curves of its case but inverts the curve of its center. Launched in 2020, the Tambour Curve literally pushes the boundaries of time between its titanium and Carbostratum® case, its surprisingly elongated convex bulge and its phenomenal flying tourbillon caliber embossed with the unyielding Poinçon de Genève. A perfect alliance between a highly complicated movement and daring creativity.

In 2021, the Tambour Carpe Diem was awarded the Audacity First Prize at the Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève, while the Tambour Street Diver won the diving watch prize.
The art of watchmaking at Louis Vuitton is also closely linked to the connected watch. The near future is already present. In 2022, the house has already presented the 3rd generation of its Tambour Horizon Light Up. A connected watch with a diameter of 44 mm and a self-developed operating system that is both luminous and mobile. Fully customizable, true to the House’s DNA, it features an incredible backlit ring adorned with 24 luminous Monogram flowers.
A Twenty for twenty years
In just under two decades, Louis Vuitton has thus succeeded in creating genuine watchmaking legitimacy. Timeless, the Tambour’s stylistic and iconic signature blends into all types of timepieces over the years, from the most classic to the most complicated movements. Depending on the wearer’s wishes, it could become a masculine, feminine, GMT, diver’s and even a flying tourbillon or minute repeater watch, true masterpieces of haute horlogerie. To pay tribute to the one who made all this possible, the legendary Tambour, the Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton is dedicating an anniversary piece to her, the Tambour Twenty. This limited edition of 200 pieces pays homage to the original Tambour, using the emblematic codes that have made it a watchmaking icon.
“Enthusiasts will recognize all the distinctive features that have made the design of the Tambour a unique watchmaker creation. This limited edition is a true concentration of the elements that have shaped its unique identity, yet incorporates new features that will set it apart in the eyes of collectors, explains Jean Arnault, Marketing and Product Development Director, Louis Vuitton Horlogerie. For me it not only celebrates an anniversary but also paves the way for many new decades of fine watchmaking, true to Louis Vuitton values of creativity, craftsmanship and craftsmanship. »

Thus, in the Tambour Twenty we find the unique shape of its case, which is immediately recognizable and pays homage to the Tambour, a watchmaking element of the same name. It is characterized by its low flared shape, which conveys a feeling of robustness and reliability. On its iconic case, with a diameter of 41.5 mm, like the 2002 version, we find the twelve letters that make up the name “Louis Vuitton” in rhythm with the numerals and indexes. This collector’s edition also features a brown sunburst dial crossed by the long yellow chronograph hand, a nod to the thread historically used for leather goods, and the two elegant sub-dials stand out.
Water-resistant to 100 meters, this Tambour Twenty beats to the rhythm of a high-frequency LV277 movement based on the emblematic Zenith El Primero, the first automatic chronograph in history. This movement with a 22k gold rotor has a power reserve of 50 hours with an accuracy of 1/10 of a second. This collector’s watch, produced in just 200 pieces, as evoked by the engraved case back, is offered in another icon of modern luxury: an emblematic chest in Monogram canvas in a miniature version. Another way to pay tribute to Louis Vuitton’s traveling heritage by keeping its most treasured items in boxes that stand the test of time.
A time that did not really have to pass before the horological legitimacy of the house was long known and established…
