A team of cameramen on deck to follow this human and sporting adventure
Mini-series filmed before and during the Bol d’or Mirabaud, the sailing crew allows young nautical hopefuls to compete together in this legendary race under the watchful eye of a renowned coach.
The participants and their mentor are accompanied by a film crew to narrate this unique experience from the inside in four episodes: their first meeting, the team experience during the training, the team building activities and finally their joint participation in the Bol d’ or Mirabaud.
Aired in four 3-minute episodes from June 2-15, 2022:
- Episode 3: June 10th
- Episode 4: June 15th
Coach for the first two seasons of sailing crew, sailor Shirley Robertson is the first British woman to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals (2000 and 2004). Today she is a well-known British television presenter and a sought-after sports coach.
For the 2022 edition, Mirabaud is pleased to expand the circle of partners – with the support of Hublot, Forward Wip and the Société Nautique de Genève -, a female team and the use of a monohull on foil, a high-tech boat inspired by the flying machines of the America’s Cup.
“Sailing Command” 2022: an all-female team
Here are the four young sailors from Season 2, all of whom have competed internationally and are world ranked:
• Amanda Björk-Anastassov (Switzerland), 20, Nacra 15 World Champion
• Francesca Bergamo (Italy), 25 years old, two-time European Laser Radial Champion
• Daniela Moroz (USA), 21 years old, 5 times Formula Kite World Champion
• Odile Van Aanholt (Netherlands), 24, 49erFX World Champion
Nicolas Mirabaud, Managing Partner of Mirabaud & Cie, says: “When creating this concept, we wanted to offer young talented sailors an original nautical challenge and exceptional coaching to compete in the Bol d’Or. Mirabaud, of which we have been partners for more than fifteen years. It is a human and sporting adventure based on the values of passion, entrepreneurship and team spirit. We are delighted to have brought four young women together this year and brought them forward on a high-tech boat.”
Shirley Robertson: “Each edition is a challenge because these young sailors are very successful in their own discipline and have to learn to sail as a cohesive team in a short period of time. This experience from team building is based on the technical exchange of navigation, the search for common solutions as well as moments of shared passion, laughter and great motivation to succeed together.
The team meeting and the first training sessions took place in Valence in April 2022. In June, the youngsters and their coach meet in Geneva before the Bol d’or Mirabaud for physical and mental training before D-Day. On June 11, 2022 goes the team on the Persico 69F at the start.
Deployment of a monohull on foil, high-tech boat of the latest generation
The Persico 69F is a 6.90 meter carbon foil one design. This racing boat, built by an Italian shipyard, is inspired by the flying machines of the famous America’s Cup.
Piloting a foiling boat allows you to fly above the surface of the water and reach speeds of up to 30 knots. This is a boat that requires extreme precision at the helm and perfect coordination of maneuvers. Team spirit and a perfect alignment of each member are essential for conductor Shirley Robertson to lead the crew to victory.
The Bol d’or Mirabaud (June 10-12, 2022)
Established in 1939, this largest regatta in the world welcomes more than 500 boats each year to compete on the theoretical distance of 123 kilometers (66.5 nautical miles) from Geneva to Le Bouveret and back.
