Cannes Film Festival 2022: the directors and the following films

The echo of titanium still resonates as the steps of Cannes greet their 75th red carpet: With this explosive feature film, the young director Julia Ducournau became the second woman to win the Palme d’Or in 2021, almost thirty years later Jane Campion, who helped shape the history of the festival the piano lesson, 1993. The Almond Trees by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi

With this feature film, the director ofA castle in Italy and from summer visitor pays an intimate tribute to the founders of the Théâtre des Amandiers de Nanterre, Pierre Romans and Patrice Chéreau (Louis Garrel). But the character played by Margaret Qualley (the revelation of the series maid) realizes too late that this man encounters a troubled and dangerous world.

Turn up by Kelly Reichardt

After working for wendy and lucy, Presented in Cannes in 2008, actress Michelle Williams and director Kelly Reichardt meet again fourteen years later on the Croisette. Turn up, the American duo’s fourth film, paints the portrait of a brilliant sculptor for whom the balance between art and everyday life is becoming increasingly difficult: as the opening of her new exhibition approaches, she decides to draw inspiration from her personal difficulties. The Ottoberg by Charlotte Vandermeersch and Felix Van Groeningen

Born by a French, Italian and Belgian team, this film presents the touching story of the unfailing friendship between two heroes, Pietro and Bruno, that life alternately separates and reunites. Raised in the heart of the Alps, one wants to stay in his isolated little village while the other thrives in the hustle and bustle of the city: despite their differences, they remain united and prove that nothing can break their bonds. However, it will have to take you a few months to discover this feature film, as its release is not scheduled for December 2022.

A little brother by Leonor Serraille

The 36-year-old Frenchwoman is signing her third feature film and will present it in Cannes five years after winning the Camera d’Or award Young woman. In this new film, Léonor Serraille tells the everyday life of a family that came to Paris from the Ivory Coast in the 1980s.We follow a mother, Rose (Annabelle Lengronne), and her two sons, Ernest and Jean, through thirty years of their lives . Films with essential themes

If you saved the world the first feature film by Jesse Eisenberg (The social network) as a director, promises to be unforgettable. The Emma Stone-produced (out of competition) film stars Julianne Moore in the role of manager of a shelter for victims of domestic violence and Finn Wolfhard (sensational in stranger things), son of the feminist activist and star musician of a fictional social network, insensitive to the reality of life.

In Estate agents, fromHirokazu Kore-eda, the Japanese director, Jury Prize for Like father, like son, and Golden Palm for a family affair, reveals the poignant theme of baby boxes, boxes designed to collect abandoned babies in South Korea.

Used to Cannes, Arnaud Desplechin asks in brother and sister complicated sibling relationships. In a heartbreaking drama, Marion Cotillard and Melvil Poupaud play each other opposite as their angry characters get back together after the death of their parents. Theatrical release May 20, 2022.

Realized by Dear Mia Hansen, A nice morning shows Léa Seydoux as Sandra, a young mother raising her daughter alone. While also dealing with her father’s degenerative disease, she meets an old acquaintance, played by Melvil Poupaud.

In social satire triangle of sadness, from Ruben Ostlund (in competition) we follow the itinerary of some influencer models who are stranded on a desert island after an accident while on a cruise with a group of billionaires and a cleaning lady. Social classes then prove useless and end up being overthrown.

Mashhad nights, from Ali Abbasi, takes us to Iran, in the early 2000s, when a series of feminicides shook Tehran. Determined to uncover the assassin, a courageous journalist enlists the help of the authorities, who seem to have no intention of giving her much help. Inspired by true events, this production tackles important themes and promises to leave an impression.

According to Girl, Portrait of a trans teenager who dreams of becoming a prima ballerina Luke Dhont joins us on the Croisette three years later conclude, a scenario come of age which tells of a fusion friendship between two 13-year-old boys. Inspired by the director’s own experience, the film aims to confront gender norms. There we find Emilie Dequenne and Léa Drucker.

Presented at Directors’ Fortnight and co-produced by RTS, El Agua, fromElena Lopez Riera (film professor at HEAD Geneva) follows a group of young people trying to survive summer spleen in a small Spanish village. When a storm rages, local belief is that women with “the water in them” are destined to be lost in the tide.

continental drift (to the south), by the Swiss director Lionel Bayer (Directors’ Fortnight) immerses us in the daily life of Natalie Adler, played by Isabelle Carré, as she prepares for the diplomatic visit of European couple Merkel Macron to Sicily.

james grey, the director of the immigrant, signs his big comeback Armageddon period. A personal story inspired by his childhood in Queens in the ’80s, Donald Trump’s father’s real estate bust. Crush in sight for duo Anthony Hopkins Anne Hathaway!

Nominated for the Directors’ Fortnight, See Paris again fromAlice Winocourt films the master of ceremonies Virginie Efira. Three months after being the victim of an attack, Mia struggles to remember the events but will do whatever it takes to be happy.

According to the good times Nicholas Bedos, disclosed masquerade, a dramatic comedy filmed on the French Riviera. On the bill we discover Isabelle Adjani, Pierre Niney or Marine Vacth, among others. In theaters November 2, 2022.
