Oukitel WP19: the smartphone with XXL battery

The Chinese manufacturer Oukitel stands out with its WP19, a smartphone with a huge battery with a record capacity of 21,000 mAh. Enough to ensure intensive use for a week without a charger …

How to stand out in the world of smartphones in a very crowded market where all models look the same? Simply by being different. This is obviously the route that Oukitel has followed for its WP19. Little known in France – despite a fairly rich catalog – this Chinese manufacturer has in fact come up with a rather radical solution, equipping its new phone with a gigantic battery with a capacity of 21,000 mAh. Enough, according to the manufacturer, to ensure an exceptional autonomy of several days or even a whole week with fairly intensive use: 36 hours in video playback, 123 hours in listening to music, 122 hours in calls and up to 2 252 hours in standby , almost 94 days . What we want to believe knowing that most of the current smartphones use batteries from 3,000 to 5,000 mAh, which is enough for normal use and is charged on average every two days. On paper, the Oukitel WP19 performs four to six times better…

Oukitel WP19: a weight well above average

To achieve this feat, Oukitel has cleverly merged a “classic” phone with an external battery – the famous one power banks you take on a trip to charge mobile devices – the WP19 can also be used as a backup battery to charge headphones, a connected watch or even another phone! A marriage that results in dimensions and, above all, an above-average weight: The WP19 is 78.5 mm wide, 161 mm high and 14 mm thick and weighs 485 g – no, it’s not just its mass that “weighs in”. essentially constant! In fact, while occupying roughly the same surface area as a Lambda smartphone, it’s slightly thicker than average – generally between 8 and 9mm. But it’s logically much heavier, at around 300g heavier than most current modules. There is therefore no risk of forgetting it in a bag. And long calls with the phone to your ear can feel like lifting weights…

Oukitel WP19: a phone almost like the others

But whatever! The target group that Oukitel is addressing with this exceptional smartphone is clearly not Apple or Samsung customers. Of course, the WP19 seems to be intended for those who prefer autonomy to any other criterion. This does not prevent him from showing more than respectable qualities. Compatible only with 4G (but with all the frequencies used in France), it is therefore equipped with a Mediatek Helio G95 chip, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage (expandable with a card) and a 6.78-inch screen with a IPS LCD panel (with a comfortable FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and an impressive resolution of 388 pixels per inch) with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, which ensures good display fluidity. On the photo side, there are three modules on the back with a 64 MP main sensor, a 20 MP night sensor and a 2 MP macro sensor, as well as a 16 MP front camera. The offer is completed by NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, a fingerprint sensor on the side, all with Android 12 and all Google services.

The design remains, bulky – that’s an understatement… – and angular, which obviously won’t appeal to everyone except die-hard cell phone enthusiasts. A specialty of Oukitel, which already offers several models of the same type with 8,000 and 12,500 mAh batteries in its catalog, such as the WP5 or the WP18, which can already be purchased online. The price of the WP19 is still unknown, but the WP18, which sells for around 160 euros, should not be exaggerated given its exceptional characteristics.
